Mother-daughter bonding is important no matter your what age is or the city you are living in! Here are five wish-list items that my mother and I would love to do if time and travel were on our side. Be sure to tune in every month to uncover some of our favorites!
Since January is a time of renewal and starting over (probably with new goals and resolutions), let’s focus on some activities to wrap up January with. Hopefully, they’ll help us (and you) reach some of your resolutions.
1. Learn How to Make Crepes-Vegetarian
City: New York City
Okay, maybe I am biased because I have been a vegetarian for over ten years, but Michelle knows how to cook! My mother and I went to her crepes class in December and had an absolute blast. Michelle has been cooking since she was a young child and brings years of experience and trial in error along with her recipes. She even sends over recipes and instructions once you’re done with class. Plus, you get to eat the final product. For more classes before the month is through, click here.

2. Indian Dance – Bollywood & Bhangra @ East Village
City: New York City
I get it, I get it! You haven’t taken any dance class in years. Or maybe you’ve never taken a dance class, and do not pride yourself for your rhythm. That is okay! My mother and I recently took a class with the Assistant Director of the Ajna dance company, named Shachi. The class was hosted at the Sheen Center in lower Manhattan and was totally beginner friendly!
My mother who finds joy in bopping around on the dance floor also exclaims how little rhythm she actually has. But mix in a solid instructor and a fun loving group of dancers looking to learn more, the class is a great way to increase those endorphins! To take a drop-in class with Ajna, check out more of their listings by clicking here.

3. 4-Week Pottery Class Package
City: Fairfax, Virginia
Wow! If you’re in Virginia and you aren’t taking advantage of this four-week long pottery class at $120 for the whole series–I do not know what you’re doing! My mother and I would gladly snag up seats to this amazing deal and opportunity to craft things with our own hands. Not to mention we would love the chance to learn new things little-by-little from an experienced instructor at Jimmy Potters Studio and Workshop!

4. Design & Make Your Own Custom Wood-Inlay Map at Woodcut Maps
City: San Francisco, CA
So you’re all moved into your new place, and you’ve signed a new lease for the 2017 year…but you’ve got more wall space than your last place. What about joining forces with your mother to craft the next piece to add to the walls of your apartment! Or each of you might head to a mother-daughter class and swap the custom wood pieces you make as gifts. What’s a better way to be reminded of one another when you part ways? Since I went to school in California, I would LOVE it if my mom made me a map of California to make me feel nostalgic about my college days. So what are you waiting for? Check out Catherine‘s Wood-Inlay Map Making Workshop for you and your mother here.

5. Beginner Aerial Silks Class
City: Los Angeles
When I worked for My Friend’s Place in Los Angeles, the homeless young people we worked alongside would participate in Circus Arts programming. Ever since leaving Los Angeles, I secretly miss the opportunity to hop on a tricycle, or practice circus arts. My mother never got to visit me at work or volunteer at the non-profit I worked for, but if we had the chance to head to LA and she could get a taste of how fun it is we’d do it in a heartbeat! This class with Verlocal host Jessica has many offerings through this month!
